I just drink only water for at least one day- often 2 or 3, then slowly reintegrate foods ( organic) and green tea. I also sauna and swim a lot which I find helpful.
Agree with NOX. Green tea and water are ace, when it comes to detoxing.
Not sure I could do the water thing for 3 days though!!! Jesus! fair play to you Nox :-)

Personally, for me it's all about carbs and sugar. I cut them out completely when detoxing. I used to do it every few months, but (if I'm honest) I've let things slip the past six months and have noticed a massive difference.
If I could offer any advice, it would be carbs, sugar and processed foods. Completely cut them out, if you can.
I have a food free day at least once a month if not more often. I feel it makes my digestives work overtime & helps keep weight down.
I would not recommend it the body naturally detoxes.
Mamya, that is all very well for a lady who is naturally slim and doesn't have to worry :-)
However, some of us have to suffer :-(

Detoxing is good, unless done to the extreme.
Never ever eliminate food from your diet or your body will go into starvation mode.

Simply cut out meat, fish, wheat, dairy, caffeine and alcohol.

Increase your intake of fruit, veg, wholemeal rice, nuts, seeds, non-wheat grains, pulses and water. Drinking hot water with lemon is great for cleansing.

It's about replacing garbage with healthy stuff and not starving yourself by subsisting merely on water. That would do the body more harm than good.

Thanks..i may consider it. Xxx
From a medical health perspective, the term "detoxing" is, frankly, a redundant term, since the body already has its own detoxification facility, ie the liver and the kidneys.

If by the term detox you simply want to aid your body in keeping healthy and fit, eat less, drink less, quit smoking, make sure that what you do eat is part of a balanced diet, exercise more and sleep more.

In the words of that irritating tv meerkat - simples ;)

Most of the products that are sold as part of a detox regimen fail to define what they mean, and are usually products designed to separate you from your money. A couple of linkies for you that you might find of interest ;

I'm with lazygun on this. Your body is designed to do all this for you, I don't think you actually achieve anything by doing this artificially.

Do GP's ever recommend a Detox?

Just eat good healthy food and leave out the crap!
My GP told me that detoxing can do more harm than good, especially if taken to extremes. You can cause your kidneys to work too hard if you drink too much water for example...
detox is the new / more social acceptable term for a crash diet and has nothing to do with toxin removal
"How do you detox"

Abstain from cakes.....for an hour.

What nonsense!! so what about people that have no desire to lose weight?

Some people are actually hoodwinked into believing that they can actually detox their body this way. its not that far from being believable is it?
Try to avoid processed foods (says she, just back from the supermarket) but it avoids all the unnecessary additives and preservatives.
Well, my body certainly doesn't detox itself. I have found the Carol Vorderman one to be very good. You cut out meat, wheat, dairy, sugar, salt, alcohol and caffeine. There is still lots you can eat. When I did my first detox the results were absolutely astounding. Within a couple of days I had a massive headache (caffeine withdrawl) and ALL the contents of my nose (snot) came out over three days. It was like having a bad cold/flu but it didn't feel like a cold or flu. I have had a stuffy nose all my life- asthma, eczema etc. It felt like a lifetime of toxins were finally coming out. It would have been easy to give up, thinking that I had a cold, but I stuck with it for the next six weeks. It got easier. My nose and sinuses cleared and for the first time in my life I could breathe through my nose. Incredible. Then I started to feel physically much fitter and my skin improved a lot. I re-introduced chicken and fish, but still avoid wheat and dairy now, as I know they just do me no favours. Obviously I go back into bad habits and feel crap again. A few years ago I did the Lemon Detox Diet- tree syrup, cayenne pepper and lemons in water for a week. VERY tough, but fascinating to see how great I felt when not eating anything at all. It really is very good to give your digestive system a rest. I recommend also the "Eat Right for Your Type" book which is based on a diet for your blood group. Very similar ideas, if you are type O then wheat and dairy free detox is what you need to feel better.

one month of the Rattler et al (on now) and two weeks in the summer. Replaced by water and tea (2 coffees in the morning)

Plus a sensible diet - takes 8 to 10 pounds off......
