I wouldn't have thought any amount of cigarettes is a good idea, especially as your asthmatic. It may not kill you today or tomorrow but it won't do your life expectancy any favours!

Well, I'm no doc. but wouldn't have thought so. Better NOT to have them, of course. The 50 a day I was on until 11 months ago would've killed me, that's for sure.

As they say - consult your doctor...

No one can really say. There are people who smoke 40 a day and have done for over 60 years and are still alive. Yet there are people who don't smoke that many at all who develop lung cancer after only a few years. Smoking kills and causes cancer, it states so on the packet. So it's not a good idea.
If you imagine it like a game of chance, where you're rolling dice and if you hit the right combination you get cancer. By smoking you roll the dice more frequently and so increase your chances. But there is always the probability you'll roll that combination with no smoking and conversely that you'll never roll it no matter how much you smoke.

I smoked since i was 11 years old (I went to boarding school!) and gave up when pregnant at the age of 30.  When I gave up I was on 20/30 a day.  I havent ever suffered ill health but have hopefully given up in time not to suffer in the future.  How long have you smoked for and have you always been asthmatic?  The 3 cigarettes may not feel as if they are doing you any harm but it may mean that your asthma gets a little better by not smoking.  I personally dont think 3 cigarettes a day will kill you - as someone else pointed out some people never die from smoking -others like Roy Castle died from passive smoking - it affects everyone differently, but by giving up it may just help your asthma slightly.
im sorry but i have to say that if you are only having three cigs a day then i dont think you really need them at all.

Lets be clear, every, single, cigarette has an adverse effect on your health, full stop. If you are asthmatic, then that effect will be increased. Everyone knows someone who smoked 60 a day and lived to a 100, or similar, these are a miniscule minority compared to the millions who do die prematurely, every single day, world wide, as a rresult of smoking related illness. Plus, remember, there are a lot worse things than death! Heart disease, bronchitus, lung cancer etc etc, may well not kill you for years, but if you call sitting in a chair all day gasping for breath out of an oxygen mask unable to speak or stand up being alive, please, have another fag! As you get older, the cumulitve effects of the poisons that you are lodging in your body from cigarette smoke will always have some kind of unpleasant health effect, even if you only smoke one aday, there is no escape. The good news is that by giving up the risks are reduced back almost to non smoker levels very quickly. A heart specialist at the hospital I work in recently told me that there is no greater health advice, be it losing weight, getting more exercise, cut down on alcahol, nothing, than the simple message, stop smoking.
