My 19 month old grand-daughter has had suspected swine flu, she is taking tamiflu, if it wasnt swine flu and she does catch it, god forbid, why is it that shes not allowed a 2nd dose of tamiflu, in which case what will happen to her if she is very oorly, will they admit her into hospital, as she is very small for her age, she is the size of a 1 year old, and wears 6/9 month old clothes, im very worried. Also i have been with her since her illness and so have other relatives but we havent caught it, and t will be a week on Weds that she became ill. Any help please. Thank you

tamirra.......She may not have H1N1.......I don't know and that is the problem, the diagnosis is made by assumption.....very unsatisfactory in my opinion.

However, there is no reason whatsoever that your grand-daughter shouldn't have a dose of Tamiflu should it be required.
tamirra......sorry...it should have read:

't have a second dose of Tamiflu should it be .....

Sqad, in that case why were we told by our gp that she wouldnt be able to have another dose. When we called the ambulance out on Weds for her, as she as very poorly and had a temperature of 105, they were 90% sure that she did have it, they stayed at home with her monitoring her for 3 hours, and spoke to 3 different consultants at our local hospital which resulted in them prescribing tamiflu, so why were we told this. Thanks
tamirra. Repeated courses of Tamiflu have yet to be assessed, but if your grand-daughter had another attack of H1N1 then it would be a very brave Dr that would withold Tamiflu from her.

Was your grand-daughter examined by a Dr? If not, this is indeed the problem...the problem of diagnosis.

tami.....try not to worry, she will be fine.

Morning Sqad, no she wasn`t examined by a doctor as such on ambulance men, who telephoned our local hospital, and spoke to just a doctor, then a sister, the the peadiatric cosultant, who diagnosed over the phone. I am so very worried, even now with the cough she has been left with, it stresses her out very much, and when she has a coughing fit her eyes seem to roll, we have got to see how she is today if she is sill ba then we have to call Stour care which is based at the hospital to see if they can prescribe a cough mixture to help her, as our doc wont give her any as it wasn`t him the gav her Tamiflu it was th hospital, so the ball is in their court as such. Thank you for your help.
