I have noticed a slight swelling under the skin of my jaw just in front of my ear.

i thought it was connected to an abcess I picked up on a tooth (now extracted) but a couple of months on, I was alarmed at the swelling i saw in the mirror this morning.

It is tender to the touch, but otherwise no pain. I am having an X-ray at the dentist this afternoon, but meanwhile, any ideas

Is it a swelling or a lump?
Question Author
On reflection - and prodding - it's a lump.
Cyst in the salivary gland?
2 things come to mind.......neither life threatening.

a) as 237SJ has suggested a cyst or salivary adenoma of the Parotid Gland.
b) a lymph node "mopping up" the cr@p from your dental abscess.

My guess........b)

Spot on Sqad - it's b) - infection under the tootk affecting the lymph node.

I have antibiotics, but the dentists says it's likely i will have to lose that tooth as well!!!

Oh well, could have been worse, and i was beginning to imagine possibilities.
andy...thanks for the feedback.........;-)
