I'm thinking of trying Lidl tomorrow but I'm not familiar with their products. Can anybody recommend any particular products?

Most of their stuff is very good. We shop there every week but they don't do everything you need so you have to go to one of the other big supermarkets to get the rest. Try the wines, they are very good for every day cooking and drinking.
You won't recognise the brands but many things they sell (especially sweets and biscuits) are their own versions of branded items - and equally as good, but much less expensive. We have Aldi, not Lidl, but they are much the same.
..and PS their washing powder and washing-up liquid are winners.
I find most of their stuff a bit weird to be honest, im not a lover of many of their products however Carakeel (being brought up in Germany) is a great fan. They do have a few good products, I just cant name any.

Thanks carole, I was beginning to think nobody uses Lidl. I'll definitely look at the wines.
I dunno if you're male or female Sibston but their face creams and make up are amazing. I also find that their veg and fruit keeps better than most supermarkets.
I dunno about Lidl, but at Aldi you can get a frozen lobster for a fiver.
You'll not go far wrong with their wines Sibton. :)
Tell us tomorrow how you get on! Btw if it's like Aldi, you need your own bags, and they whizz everything through the till back into your trolley, then you pack after you've paid. No chance to pack at the till - be prepared!
Their fruit and veg is approx 1/2 the main supermarkets.

My cat is happy with their dry cat food. Twice the size of whiskers and half the price.
Like Lidl for fruit and veg - half the price of most supermarkets. Also buy milk and cereal. Their weetabix is about £1 cheaper than Tesco.Well worth a visit, though you won't get everything. We also have an Aldi and I like that too.

Female, mojo, they've opened a store very close to us so I'll have a good look around.
We find you have to eat Aldi's veg quite quickly....
Tinned veg is good too, get beans and tomatoes from Lidl.
Olive oil in the square bottle, extra virgin and amazingly good. Ginger biscuits and digestive biscuits. Ours is pretty casual, you have time to pack as the stuff is scanned. California walnuts in foil packs. The remoulade sauce and salad cream in squeezy bottles.

I had heard that, boxtops
Wife and child two use their nail polish remover (this is NOT related to the previous post on wine) which comes in a nifty pump-action dispenser for less chance of spillage.
I have never bought anything which was not liked, and we have been using them for years. The parmesan cheese is excellent, as an example, but try anything and everything, and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Chocolate, paper tissues, bleach, detergents, olive oil (came out top in Which), fruit and veg.
I like their frozen meat as it tends to be on the "weird" side - ie stuff that you wouldnt find inyour regular supermarkets. I had nice Moose steaks earlier this year - lovely. Plus there is the regular stuff but cheaper - lobster, venison, duck..... Nice and cheap. Give it a go, but dont expect to fulfil your normal weekly shopping list :)
