My kitten is very fond of the cables behind the computer. I really dont want him to electricute himself and there is no way to cover up all the gaps to the cables. Is there anything I can put around the area that will deter him from going there?

You could get a harmless but effective citrus spray from a garden centre/pet shop as cats don't like the smell, this should deter your kitten.

there is also a product called Sticky Paws, it is a tape that you put around the area. cats hate sticky stuff.
There is also a plastic cable tidy that you can buy, which sounds as if it may be of help. Basically you "zip" it around bundles of cables, which not only tidies them up and stops them from trailing everywhere, but would but a physical barrier between then and the kitten. I think Lakeland shops do them and I also think a version might be done by JML.(Woolworths stock their products)

thanks for your answers. went to the petshop to get citrus spray and they gave me a spray designed to do exactly the job, seems to have done the trick (so far). Might also invest in one of those cable ties, though thats just to make it look prettier. :-)
i got some cable ties from www.cable-ties.co.uk
