I associate robins with the winter months. I've just had a robin in my garden! I was mowing the lawn and it came down. Is that usual for May?

Hi Sachs! yes robins are around all year. Yours might have been looking for small worms & grubs that had come to surface (after you'd woken them up with the mower!) to feed his/her babies. If you want to come & mow mine I'll sit and watch out for the robins. :o)

.....this site is sooo slow today

Hi Robinia,
yep! I thought that about the worms! It seemed timid of the other sparrows. I threw some bread out but it was'nt that interested in it, just nosy. I've since found out they like dried fruit & nuts and worms :0) xxx
a couple of years ago we had a really cheeky confident robin adopt us. He would come and nag us for food and take suet (the atora kind) from my hand.

This one was quite cheeky woof. Didn't seem to mind the noise of the mower. Gorgeous little thing!
We have a pair nesting in the letter box next door, they come around all the time, although they do seem to drop off a bit at the end of summer but I expect they have babies now, most of the birds do.
My neighbour had one that came into her kitchen through the open door to look for currants while we were talking, plopped on the kettle & went again!

There colouring is lovely eyeshade!
If you want to entice them, you could get some mealy worms, they go potty for those, so do blackbirds but they get quite tame as well sometimes.
yes eyeshade, I have blackbirds coming to the windowsill for raisins...they cost me a fortune!
Question Author
Do you think raisins will be as enticing? I dont like the idea of worms ;0)
Question Author
I've just thrown a handful out, see what comes down to eat them! x
