A businessman, a vicar and a labourer were in the same train compartment. Each of them was doing the Times crossword.
After a short time, the labourer put his pen in his pocket and rolled up his newspaper.
"Stuck, eh?" enquired the business man.
"No, I've finished it!" came the response.
"Then maybe you can help me. 14 down, 'found at the bottom of a budgie cage', four letters ending in I T."
"Grit!" replied the workman.
The vicar raised his head and said, "Oh dear, does anyone have a rubber?"

This joke would be intriguing over the pond (where a rubber is a condom)
I did once ask in an American shop for a pencil with a rubber on the end. I realised my mistake by the look on the assistant's face, and corrected myself to 'eraser'.
