This afternoon we collected another 7 rescue hens, such a sorry state, huge great bald patches on their backs, we will keep them separated from our other hens until they have recovered from the trauma of the day, unfortunately it will take a while to grow new feathers, until then we have to keep them warm, they are currently living in our summerhouse.

Our previous ten rescues (Columbian Red Tails) are great egg layers and are doing really well.

:-)
Well done Ratter
Question Author
I think they will turn out a similar colour as they are all hybrids crossed with Rhode Island Reds, I think these will have more white on them, difficult to tell at the moment.
murph has got freaked out by the vid, she can hear then but she cant; find them, she's currently looking under the bed

this may keep me amused for hours...
Nice looking hens. They look like Ginger Warrens to me. Or possibly Ginger Hylines.

Graham, sorry to cause confusion, the vid is of the Columbian not the new batch.
RATTER. Meant to put a wink at the end ;-))
aww what a shame, thank goodness you have them now, well done on rescuing them.
well done ratter, mine all look like normal hens now, 2 insist on flying over the paddock gate and coming down and pecking on the patio doors , last week had to go and collect 1 from 4 doors down as she had taken her self for a walk they are so friendly arnt they

Chickens really are addictive, we keep ours at virtually no cost, the eggs we dont eat I sell at work for £1.00 for 6 or £2 for 12, thats cheap as they are nearly all large or very large eggs, we dont want a profit on them but it covers their cost and enables us to keep a few more.
So So lovely of you ratter, You got the chicken bug, I rescued a load in march, 1 came back with a cold and gave it to my flock, please please keep them seperated and quarantined for the time being till you know that it is safe to introduce them to your lovely flock, our last remaining x battery is alive and doing really well with a limp,
I applaud your work ratter
Well done & keep it up
have you moved to Wales yet, ratter.

My goodness, you two will be pigging out on scramblies big time.......probably quite good over that "scone" of yours......
Question Author
Scrambled eggs over scones!! That must be a Cornish thing, sounds gross. We haven't moved yet, still have the house on the market, we don't see much happening now until march :-( we will get there :-)
