My George has recently developed a swollen lip (upper right side). He does love an empty box and we originally thought he had rubbed against that as he did that for a while but it has recently flared up again. It seems to last about 2 days, then disappear but this is the third time in a month it has swollen. We've looked at his gums and they seem a normal colour. Does anyone have any advice or ideas? He does seem to eating normally but it doesn't half look painful.

He hasn't got a salmon bone stuck in there has he?
Question Author
He hasn't had salmon for ages and we didn't notice any bones in it. How would we know? He doesn't stay still enough for us to check.
I think you know what you should do.

3 letters - rhymes with bet

Not his favourite place poor thing!
No Filbert, but you must take him, preferably tomorrow. Let us know how you get on won't you please.
Is it a tooth that sticks into his lip.
he could have an abscess, he could have something stuck in his lip which irritates from time to time, he could have a problem with a tooth, he could have been stung - really he could have.........a lot of things. IMO- vet
Hmmm. I wonder if George got taken to the vet today. Would be good to know how he got on if you're around Filbert.
How is George. Is he better now.
Question Author
Hi all, sorry I haven't replied before. It turns out he has an allergic reaction but we're not sure what as yet. The vet gave him a steroid injection and told us to keep feeding him the same as his food hasn't changed but to try changing his bowls to ceramic instead of plastic. We have to go back in 2 weeks to see. If that doesn't work then he's going to do a biopsy. George is on a special diet as he has kidney problems so the vet is reluctant to change the diet until we know exactly what it is. Fingers crossed!!! Thanks all for enquiring. Hugs
My cat Charlie would like to invite George round for tea!
My cat Frankie sends his regards - he is due to go to the vet this week and is keeping a low profile in the hope that I will forget!

I know what you mean...since we've been to the vets, everytime we put on our shoes and coats, George darts for cover just incase he's coming too
Filbert, ask your vet about Feline Acne - our Rover sometimes gets a swollen lip and chin, and it turned out to be that - he's treated with Bactroban, which really helps.

I will do next time we go, thanks
Try and write a book for children called "My Cat George" ! The advance will help towards the veterinary fee .
