My sister has turned up unexpectedly after her aged MIL's dog bit her 2-year-old-son. The dog itself is 15, on its last legs, and has virtually no teeth. The MIL is blind (she lives with them) and the dog is precious to her. My sister also has 2 dogs of her own, which she adored and cherished for the years when she couldn't have a baby. As soon as she had successful IVF, she wanted rid of the dogs, but her husband refused. Now she is refusing to go home until all the dogs are destroyed. But her son was constantly tormenting the dogs, pulling their ears and whiskers. Ever since she has become a mother, she has been smug, arrogant and self-important. Yesterday, she was demanding that people go outside and smoke, and it was THEIR house, not HER'S ! But if we stand up to her, she is so stubborn, she'll break contact with us, until we go crawling to her. Do you think she is right to demand destruction of the dogs?

No, I think she should be taken down a peg or two. My sister is similar. Since she had a child with her BF (she has 2 previous) she has become self righteous, judgemental and hypocritical. She pretends her life is perfect and thinks everyone is jealous of her, especially me. I think not.....
I;d rather see a person look after there child like that than not at all.

Hi Ummmm !

My sister is very hypocritical too. When she was pregnant, she got uppety one day, because one of our dogs was barking. She said it was bad for the baby. Yet she sat there tucking into fatty bacon sandwiches and several bags of crisps. When I made a comment about what she was feeding the baby, she hit the roof and started screaming !!!

Hi 4getmenot ! The thing is, she was lying on the sofa reading a book all yesterday arvo, and when her son wanted to play, she totally ignored him. She expected us to entertain him, while she got on with her reading.
her best bet is to move away from the dogs. Leave them to live with her hubby and go her own way.

That way she can ban dogs, smoking and anything else she wants in her own house :)

Hey Red !!

The thing is, she loved those dogs before she had the baby. She took them everywhere. It's like she's now got a better toy to play with, she doesn't want her old toys anymore !!
easy...keep the dogs.....sell the baby to Madonna.....
Question Author
Thanks Craft ! Perhaps Madonna would care to sponser them to go and live in Africa or something ! To be honest, I don't think I'd miss my sister all that much. I would miss little 'un tho. x
I guess the dogs were her babies when she thought she couldnt have children
Question Author
That's correct 4get ! She loved them. But when she got pregnant, she didn't want to know them anymore. None of them is dangerous. She's just acting all high and mighty.
Hi NoMercy - I think your sister is finding motherhood harder than she expected and won't admit it - by acting all upperty I think she is putting up a defence barrier.

I think getting her to admit this is the first hurdle.

Good luck xx
Put the child in care.
Kia Ora, all. :)

This is why not even the United Nations have nothing to do with families!

Mine is dysfunctional, so I can't comment.

they bit her son
No 4get...the MIL's dog bit her son.
