OH had printed the route to our destination today, he had also set the sat nav. I like to look at the atlas and follow our route so I can see what progress we are making.
Our destination was a small hamlet called Pace (with an accent over which I can't do).
I looked in the atlas and found it near Rennes. Looked at print out and ok.
Off we set and I kept checking all ok. About 3 hours later I looked at atlas and said something wrong here.
We have got two whole pages of this atlas to go and the sat nav is saying we will be there in 30minutes. We had to pull over and see what was going on.
It turned out there are two places called Pace, one near Rennes and one near Alencon. The Alencon one was the correct one.
His print out from Google had picked the wrong one. We could have been 150 miles adrift.
What is going to be the next *** up I wonder.

The good old atlas wins, have a great time Caran
Lol - easily done, think of it as being pronounced Pass.....

friends in HK managed to board a flight to Qingdao (Ching-da-ow) instead of Chengdu (capital of Szechuan Province). When they arrived, at night, the commentary was 'I didn't know Chengdu was on a lake (the sea) and where are the mountains?'

Slowly, they realised - the flight time from Qingdao to Chengdu is approximately 3.5 hours....
You should write a book about your holiday disasters. Well, that'd be normal holidays to you, caran.
Nothing beats having a sense of the physical reality from maps, before you involve stupid computers.

What also made me laugh, he got tomorrow's print out ready and he was studying it, when I pointed out it had us setting off from the wrong Pace, which was 150 miles away, I asked him how are you gonna get outa that one mate?
He was not pleased and muttered the satnav can sort it in the morning.
Good thing you stopped to check.

Nearly had another! When we came into our room there were two sweets on a dish, we had one each. Later went out for a meal. I got back in room first and pottered. OH came up about 15 minutes later having been looking for something in the car. Oh look he said. Hotel owner has left us some more sweets in the dish. There is a real assortment. Do you want to choose first? He passed me the dish. You stupid boy I said, they are my pills ready for morning!
That could have been interesting!
LOL, are you both insured Caran.
Good thing you were there, another disaster avoided. Do enjoy your holiday.

You bet your life we are insured!
I really don't blame you, Caran. Could have been worse though you could have gone in the MG.
Question Author
Dooooooont go there.
Caran, I have long said (after much experience) that getting lost in France is an Art Form. Congratulations, you sound to be nearing perfection....

Jourdain we have been coming to France every year for nearly 20 years either by boat, motor home or by car. We have covered so much of it and have never failed to have disasters. We have had so much fun getting ourselves out of predicaments, it's almost like second nature now. Fingers crossed along with everything else!
Why am I not surprised!....Keep us posted, Caran......I love the fun....Gx

I was once touring in France and we stopped at a nice hotel near Valencienne [ spelt something like that] we had a small fridge in the room and on opening found half a tin of Pedigree Chum label in French and when we asked the front desk to remove it they said but it must be yours !
Just a techie and frequent traveller hint - do you upgrade your sat nav at least once a year - and most locations in europe have a number similar to our postcodes so you know which one to select. If you need to do a few seconds research try Michelin route finder - gives you options on routes and estimates fuel and toll costs.
