It seems to be very much in fashion at the moment. Why is that? Do you think it`s because the world is becoming such a horrible place and people like to hark back to the past because the past is safe?

Nostalgia aint what it used to be
I think it's always been important and I haven't noticed any significant change in this respect in my lifetime
I wish I knew then, what I know now!

a reasonable assumption

i do know that nostalgia is not what it used to be ;-)

Never go backwards!

The past might have been a bit safer in theory, but horrible things still happened - just not quite so publicly as now.

The reason that I have been thinking about this is because I was having a conversation with a colleague about an exhibition that has opened in Coventry which showcases childrens TV. Apparently, the museum has been very popular and we were saying that nostalgia is all the rage at the moment.
I don't know if this is pertinent to the question or not; however, I've always appreciated the quote: "The present is the sum total of the past."
237SJ - do you think that maybe you are more nostalgic at the moment because of events that you have experienced recently?
Whenever I see children's programmes that I used to watch, I am disappointed that they don't measure up (except Trumpton)

Sherrardk - yes, that could be the case. When my Mum was dying she harked back to the past and so did my Dad in his later years. Maybe I am just trying to find ways to cope with the loss.
People are, and always have been, nostalgic about nostalgia. I think it's human nature. I was in tears on Sunday at the television re-run of the VE celebrations in London this year - even though I wasn't around to witness first hand what the celebrations were commemorating.
Ah yes, the good old days when no one had to diet.

We went through a World War, so no don't think that the past was safer, and back then we also got to know plenty of what was going off.
