This question is to people who are against abortion.

What are you reasons for being against someone having an abortion? I am interested in people who's reasons are something other than religion.

Why does it really matter to you what a stranger does?

jelly-baby, well I was wondering if you were from the US because you have American turns of phrase and you stated somewhere that 17 year olds should still be in full time education, when in the UK full time education ceases at 16 and I know in the US this is not true until people reach 18 usually. Also you seem to consider wee-angel a child which I think most people in the UK would not, as people in the US seem to keep their youngsters younger in attitude for a much longer time and your attitudes just strike me that you may not be from the UK. I may well be wrong and don't mean any offenmce by it I just feel it would be helpful to try to gain insight into your origins as it matters how you are viewed when people read your responses, because life in the US is very different to the UK and I'd just like to undertand where you are coming from slightly more when you answer.
I ask because I find some the comments made a little patronising.

Do you really.. hmm. Well, I guess its hard to no the tone that someone is using in there post since its only typing we can read.. What did you find you find patronishing Greedyfly? Just wondering thats all...

noxlumos - I am from the UK. I did not say that I consider her to be a child - it is the govenment who say you are officially still a child until you are 18 - if you re-read what I said you will see. To be honest though, her replies are very childish (name-calling etc.) and exactly what I would expect from a 17 year old with an immature mind (as she appears to have). You can almost hear her throwing a tantrum as she writes.

Full time education doesn't stop at 16 - what about A-levels and university? It is a choice to stop but don't you think most 16 year olds would be better off at least continuing until 18?

Before anyone else goes off on one - I am not calling 16/17 year-olds children - it is a fact of life that you become an 'adult' when you turn 18. I am aware that there are lots of people that age with a more grown-up attitude than others.

weeangel - "run away to gretna green". That statement says it all. Adults would not need to "run away" to get married.

Don't think I'll go with your idea of the new post about marriage at 16 as I'm really not that interested in it. After all - it's more sensible to do that than have a baby at 16 so I say good luck to them!

I maybe confusing jenny and jelly - very simular to look at at a glance
JENNYKINS -I see you point but you just can't say it should be banned outright. In my opinion you are wrong. Last Wednesday I had a termination of an 8 week preganancy. My boyfriend had mumps last year and was told that it caused him to be infertile. I'm 22, in debt, live with my father and have no means of supporting another human being and along with that, my boyfriend ended our relationship the day I found out I was pregnant (before he knew about it). How can you tell me that bringing that unwanted, unexpected child in to the world would be best. It would be utterly selfish. I really don't think you can make judgements about something like this when you haven't been through it yourself.
Milly- When I had my fist child I had no job and had just finished school.. And my husband also had no money at the time.. and our parents were very against it.. My father told me I had to adopt the baby out.. I said no to the Dr that wanted me to abort it and no to my father ,..(So I have been in the situation) I have a 7 year old now that has made my life worth every second lived..If I felt I could not raise a child due to money and being alone then I would give birth and give the child to another family.. that is not selfish... Selfish is saying this childs life with interupt your own life.. That is just sad. And you have the right to your opinion and I respect that.. And Im also sorry to here about your abortion I hope you will be ok in the future to have babys since abortion cause's the chance to never be able to give birth. Jen

Abortions may cause future infertility due to post operative infection, but this is rare & a piece of propaganda used mainly by anti-abortionists ;o) secondary infertility can be caused by any kind of infection whether an abortion has been had or not ~ in fact, the main cause of secondary infertility is not known.

I have had an abortion (at 9 weeks). I won't go into why I had it, but it was for a very personal reason. I already had two children (& before those I had 2 miscarriages). Since the abortion I have gone on to have two more children, and fallen pregnant very easily.

From personal experience I can say that abortion was not an easy choice. I think about it quite a lot, but it doesn't rule my life as I feel I made the right decision ~ therefore I don't regret it. I do regret getting pregnant though, if that makes any sense.

Jennkins - What a senseless comment to make.
Im an American, and you can have an abortion close to full term but 90% of offices will not perform the procedure after 4 months, the other 10% will possibly do the abortion if you pay a considerable amount of money-and I'm talking thousands. And I would almost gaurenttee that's how it is in most countries, whether it is illegal or not.

Of course things change if the mothers life is at risk.

How so Milly? I found it made sence...
