Good evening all, trust we are all sober? sorry to come into a saturday night seance with a sensible ( to me) question, and probably on the wrong heading, but very important, and i know there is a wealth of intelligence on this site.
when you do a CV, and they ask for a covering letter, is that just a summary of the CV, or a bit more bluff and bull as to why you want to work for the company?? or do you summarise your age, and more revelant info, rather than the CV showing past history going back years??what would you write?? Very important that we get this right please, so have a good night, and CV goes in tomorrow ( not mine, son in law)
thank you all,Annie.

Yes. Why you want to work for this company. What strengths and experiences make you a suitable candidate. How you enjoy being part of a team but are quite happy working alone and enjoying the decision making process.
All the usual BS.
Good luck.
I'd say it was specifically stating why you wish to be considered for the vacancy and what you can bring to the role. Don't repeat employment history, skills etc as written on your CV unless they directly relate to the new position. BTW you are not obliged to put your date of birth/age on a CV.
Keep it concise, no need to summarise CV, such a summary should front the CV itself. The covering letter could briefly/explanatory refer to this; details like why you want to work there, why you would be suitable, etc., are all good points which will help build the right attitude by the person reviewing your letter (of possibly hundreds, so once again BE CONCISE).
