Who's idea was it to have "Cricket Whites" ? Having just sorted my grandchildren's cricket gear out for the wash I am amazed at how much stain remover etc., is used before the attempt to get them clean. Why not Cricket Colours ? perhaps green to disguise the grass stains.

I suspect that white was originally chosen so as to reflect the heat from the blazing sun beating down upon those chappies meandering around the village green during those brutally hot British summers...But, then again, I could be wrong.

Green? you mean camouflage the fielders, that would make the batsman's task more interesting!

Yes I guess that is the reason, I often wonder how they were cleaned in the days of the old washboard etc, the days before "stain removers" were invented,.......... elbow grease I expect, thank you.

Never thought of that Baldric, typical female logic !!
Baldric, "cricket" and "interesting" in the same sentence?:)
OK, "batman's" not "cricket".

Accidental oxymoron Stewey, sincere apology!
I love cricket and cricket whites...though I don't have to wash them, Maggie....may change my thinking if I did.
Not so keen on all the colours though the team I follows plays in... guess what....black....☻
In the 60's we had to wear white plimsolls for all PE at school, and my Mum must have spent a small fortune on that whitening agent that had to be applied !
"The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey"
And all the whitening got stiffer and stiffer, Mikey....you couldn't bend your feet until it had cracked...

I love that...not just for what was said...but the follow on....still makes me laugh.....☺
Cricket colours are quite common these days in commercial cricket - e.g. IPL.
Lillie, caught Willey bowled Dilley!

^^^^ Did Brian Johnston really say........"The Bowler's Holding the Batsman's Willie".
