A seventeen year old girl died in Kettering General Hospital following an appendectomy.

The hospital admitted responsibility for her death but refused to release details in case it caused mental upset for the staff involved! No compassion for the parents there then.

They have now had to release those details which show forty three mistakes in her care.....forty three.

Some of those mistakes are the same ones I formally complained about in 1997.
I still have, among many others, the letter of apology from the then hospital chief who admitted that those mistakes should never have occurred but procedures had been put in place to make sure they never happened again.
I didn't believe it then any more than I do now after the needless death of this poor lass.

The chances of me letting them near my ears with a scalpel under general anaesthetic are now nil......

Check the weather to see what type of clothes you will need... If you are going to be staying somewhere with access to a washing machine, you need only take 4-5 days worth of clothing, and you can wash and wear again. It's a long flight, make sure you have snacks and stuff for the journey. Is it a night flight? Hopefully child will sleep. Good luck and have a great time.
Oh dear, that got posted in the wrong place!
gness, x.
Oh dear from the Beeb site

Victoria Harrison, 17, was found dead the day after an appendix operation at Kettering General Hospital in 2012.

and the cause of death was - haemorrhage

[ this is most likely to be a non ligated appendicular artery
and making sure it is , is pretty basic ]

and the report has not been released for fear of further streesing the staff. dear dear
Naah, knowabit, indavertently, it probably sums up visiting most NHS hospitals!

You are absolutely entitled to be angry Gness, I would jolly well be angry in your shoes. I do hope this discussion doesn't keep you awake tonight, please think of the lovely memories you have of being together. xx

Having also seen the filthy conditions in Leicester General in 1997 when my Mum was in there, I thoroughly sympathise. Rolls of dust under the beds, dirty tissues littering the floor, bed sores developing after only TWO days due to neglect and later when Mum was finally getting better I saw ward toilets so disgustingly dirty that my Mum couldn't bear to sit on the seat. She told us she asked for bleach and some cloths to clean it herself when she could barely stand up, she had been so ill. The lady in the next bed died while we were visiting one night and we had to endure the sounds of muffled undignified laughter behind the thin dividing curtain, from two nurses, larking around, getting the poor lady ready to transfer her to the mortuary.

I have hundreds of tales to tell from the 3 months spent visiting .........It was so grim in there. I do hope things have improved since those days but I sincerely hope I never end up in there to find out.

I think DT was only trying to help by being so indignant about your husbands care, that he felt you should report the matter even all these years later.

Hugs to you Gness. xx

Hi, Ann.....I began to think DT wasn't listening to all I was saying...hey ho...☺

No....things don't keep me awake....I get angry over a few things....mainly other peoples problems or heartbreaks but I don't ever dwell...the last thing MrG would have wanted was for me to be miserable.

Ann....from '97 until 2008 I saw LGH get dirtier and the standard of the staff fall until I was convinced that they were hiring the coldest oddballs they could find.....and I know that at least two of the consultants were despairing of some of the nurses and junior doctors they were having to deal with.

When, after the inquest findings, I decided not to take legal action I was asked to sit on a hospital panel of some sort .....but I can think of jollier ways to drive myself dolally.......☺

Sleep well, night owl....x
Southampton General is the same. Completely disgusting on the wards and an A and E I wouldn't send someone else's toy duck to. Queen Alexandra's in Gosport, on the other hand could be from a different planet, immaculately clean and all the staff seem to be lovely, very kind and helpful.
lessons will be leaned, er no they aren't
//lessons will be learned//
I agree emmie, they trot out that phrase every time something serious happens, they seem to think it's a good get-out clause. It drives me mad every time someone says it.
