Car players are notorious for giving trouble with CD-r's ... You seem to be half way there so try burning at a slower speed and see if that helps.

As Philby says, try a slower speed - no more than 8x for Audio CDs - some people use 2x or 4x. I usually found that the CDs got quite hot after a while - probably not good for the dye layer. Try putting another CD in, let the other one cool and then palay it later from track 12 on, see if it's any different!

I now use a hard disc mp3 player in the car - you can also get devices that play memory sticks and memory cards!

Hopefully someone will bring out an in-dash Hard Disk that you upload tracks to from a memory stick or 'iPod'-like player.
