Night shift.... just gone midnight here..

how many days or nights do you have to do that? when do you clock off, so to speak? it's nearly 3.30 here.

We do a two days two night pattern.. days 0730 till 1845 (1030-2145gmt) and 1830 till 0745 (2130 - 1045 gmt) day shifts, one day off and its a rotating pattern of that. I've found optimum trip length down here is about 10 to 12 weeks before you start to feel the effects of fatigue.....I'm at week 15 of this trip and I'm knackered!!

that sounds a very physically disturbing work pattern. your body clock doesn't have time to get used to any sort of rhythm. not surprised you feel tired. why are you on week 15?

one of my daughters is a london bus driver and at least her shifts last a week. she often says she feels tired.

It can be hard work, it a pretty intensive place weather wise the weather can be a nightmare at times. I've been doing these kind of shifts for nearly 30 years Lady J so if anything I'm used to them now.

Our trips now run in terms of weeks, it's easier to count!! This will be my last trip, I leave here on the 25th of this month. My job is disappearing here so that's me done. Been coming here off and on since 1989.

i'll bet you get a great leaving do. you certainly deserve one.

what happens then? alternative employment (after a good holiday)? or retirement? if it's that you'll be busier than ever (dbut no shifts).

No.... waved bye bye from the office here then it's back to the mundane job in Aberdeen. I've worked for this lot for nearly 30 years so leaving now would be mental...it's racking what's left of our pension rights!! being a civil servant is not great any more, Salaries have never been brilliant but the pensions were always among the best....not any more!!

i do understand.it gets eroded every day. beginning to wonder why i ever worked hard and saved as much as i could. not as well off as some who never did either.

do think it's time to start the gmeb thread or should i just go back to bed?

don't mind starting it but page three could be a problem. busy day tomorrow as still have four visitors staying. lots extra to do. no chance of a rest (ie. snooze) during the day.
