Khandro, perhaps you really aren't aware of the difference between sound waves and radio waves. Sound waves can only occur in a material medium, ie. solid, liquid or gas. Radio waves on the other hand are part of the electromagnetic spectrum and do not require any medium for their transmission. They behave entirely differently to sound waves, why not look them up on wiki.
The sounds you hear on your multidude of electronic devices are not a conduit for sound but converters of electromagnetic radiation into sound waves. The idea that radios receive sound is rather naive, they don't. The reason you cannot hear any sounds when you switch off your electronic devices is because there are no sounds that you can hear. There will certainly be sounds outside your range of hearing (both frequency and amplitude).
Pixie, please explain why you think that vibration is different to sound. A solid object vibrating at audible frequencies will produce sound, Place this in a tank of water and the sound will be transmitted through the water to the atmosphere and thence to your ear, it is all vibration and all sound.
@Jom Your post at 10:20 was spot on. That was what I should have said in my earlier response to Khandro - got sidetracked :)
LG, I don't think Khandro sidetracks deliberately.....
The real answer is. Does anything exist out of our mind???

Is this a prelude to some discussion about "The Matrix"? ;)

Uncertain, of the reference, but it's a good question. Welcome Angeletic_Opera!
Ooooooo No, don't go there Khandro ....please.
Sorry, jom. Only just seen your question...
I didn't even realise it was controversial that vibrations and sound aren't necessarily the same thing.
I can put my hand on a washing machine and feel it vibrating. I can look at it and see it vibrating. Those vibrations aren't sound.
Pixie, you can't hear the sound of your vibrating washing machine because the frequency is too low for your ears. An elephant might be able to hear it though as they can hear sounds about 5Hz lower than humans can. A cat wouldn't be able to hear the mains hum from a poor hifi installation but we would be aware of it as it is just inside our auditory range.

Jom; Elephants and washing machines indeed, - they don't have anything to wash, so that's a non-starter :-) Though I seem to remember that crystals vibrate inside quartz watches, is that correct?
Khandro, you are correct, the vibrations are used to generate a reference frequency which is detected electrically because the quartz crystals generate an electrical signal during each cycle of vibration.
