A random selection from my January slurping :

M&S Sancerre :

http://www.marksandspencer.com/Les-Ruettes-Sancerre-2012-Case/dp/B007MI2C0Y

A seriously good example - and not paying too much of a premium for the Sancerre appellation. Just a tad more fruit than usual, but none the worse for that - not my usual tipple, but it washed down a lunch of assorted charcuterie and salads a treat.

Averys Domaine de Mourchon :

Cotes du Rhone-Villages doesn't get much better than this - a big mouthful of fruit and oodles of body. I just demolished a bottle with a Roast Pheasant ... stunning.

Waitrose Dry Oloroso Sherry :

http://www.waitrose.com/shop/ProductView-10317-10001-32754-Waitrose+Dry+Oloroso+Sherry#.UtxDHvvFLcs

A ridiculous bargain - you could pay £20 a bottle for a wine of this quality elsewhere. "But I don't like Sherry" - this is about as far from Emva Cream as Cloudy Bay is from Lambrini - just try it. Nutty, sweet and dry all at the same time, a huge mouthful of complexity. Wonderful stuff.

Averys Morillon Blanc Vin de Pays d'Oc

http://www.averys.com/jsp/product/productDetails.jsp?productId=eprod230010&_requestid=506311

Best white I've drunk over Christmas - like a Southern France version of Burgundy - subtly oaked and with a full body - but with some nice, almost apricot, overtones.

A rather upmarket selection - back to Aldi next month when the Christmas cases are empty.

Cheers

One of the nicest I had over Christmas was a white... Condrieu Clos Boucher Delas 2008, a Viognier from the Wine Society that was typically rich in fruit in a tropical sense with mango, blood-orange combined with an apple-pie depth and then notes of lemon and ginger, the wine deliciously low in acid.

On the Adams Ale at the moment - or ginger beer, just about 1/2 way through

I like Viognier, DT - I'll have a look at the Condrieu.
Wither Hills pinot gris, got some for Christmas (I have since found it in Waitrose); aromatic, almost tangy -I have heard it recommended to accompany curry, but that's not necessary and unless it's a seriously good curry it'd be a waste anyway.

Yep - nice wine that - I had a bottle just before Christmas, jno.

I had it with a Veal Escalope which had been done in Parmesan Crumbs - went very well indeed.
I like their S-Blanc, jno, always nice, sharp (nettly) and refreshing......been there as well, close to Blenheim, a fun visit and plenty of samples. The Pinot Noir is my least favourite, a tad to cherry-fruity for my taste. Intense though for those who like that characteristic.

Like to see them make a S-B/Semillon blend.....
That Dry Oloroso looks a bit yummers. I might bag some of that.
Anyone had their Riesling? That I don't know.
Question Author
Go for it JJ - lovely aperitif before your 'prick and ping' :+)
Also my thanks for the dry Oloroso tip dave. Usually have a Fino to hand while cooking but will get some.
I can vouch for the Oloroso, it is excellent!
Question Author
Aha - the AB sherry drinkers are coming out of the closet :+)
That's one of my favourites, jno. Look out for Framingham NZ pilot gris - it's excellent.
