I have just started actively using Answerbank and note on my profile I have 3 badges - what does this mean? Also 15 question and 25 answers - does this mean I have asked 15 questions and been given 25 answers.

Welcome. :-)
Ignore the badges, they are inaccurate. You are part right '25' refers to how many answers you have given.
You can check your badges by clicking on your profile and then badges
Your badges explained:

Here's a list of all available badges:

The question and answer count relates to how many posts you have made of each type, not to what others may have done on threads created by you.
PS: AB currently has a technical fault (which I've reported) meaning that badges aren't being automatically awarded when they should be. (For example, Methyl has over 100 'best answers' but he hasn't been given his '100 Club' badge. Similarly SandyRoe is missing his much-deserved '1000 Club badge'). So you might be due more badges than you've actually got.
