Last Thursday (2nd March) i had an interview for a civilian post in the Police. When should I hear whether I was successful?

They are very slow so don't be surprised if you don't hear anything for ages. Then if you are successful they will take up references which also takes time and they can withdraw the offer of employment if it they are not satisfactory.
You should hear something a few weeks after the closing date. They tend not to contact you unless you are taken to the next stage.

Thanks for your answers. I think they only take up referees if you are successful, thus far my referee has not been approached - more than a week after the interview. I really want the job. The whole process started way back last November with my initial application. It took them till the first week in February to invite me for interview.

Whilst I understand they have to be thorough, it does seem a bit drawn out. I am getting a bit frustrated with all the waiting - with no guarantee at the end. I assume they will contact me if I am UNsuccessful.

The area I live in has high unemployment, with the loss of lots of manufacturing jobs in recent years. There is not much work about and I just wish things could start moving along with the job application.
