socialism doesn't work BUT social justice might be a nice idea!!

To those people who answered that they dont intend to vote next time out due to having no faith in any politician, as much as I sympathise with your frustrations, its not the answer.

Its the political equivalent of giving someone a job and telling them that no matter how lazy, stupid or incompetent they are, you wont sack them. Its hardly likely to motivate them into performing or trying very hard (and that applies to government and opposition).
Your vote is a tool for change, you can force out fools by giving it to the candidates who are motivated, and are prepared to be held to account.
The reason there are so few of them, is because our expectations of politicians are so low (were less likely to be disappointed), but when enough people are prepared to demand more from our elected officials, and use their vote reward effort, then perhaps we can move forward.
Currently, the general apathy felt towards politics by so many in this country means that sadly, we have the politicians we deserve.

perhaps its about time we gave the lib dems a shot.

i doubt they could do much worse than the last two!

They could joko, they could.

One of the good things from a Lib dem point of view is that they can promise anything they want in the knowledge that they are never going to have to implement.

Be afraid, be very afraid!

stevie_c2it ~ I would have agreed with you before the last election. I hoped then that the majority would have voted the right way, but alas no.

Maybe the people who did vote Labour & are now unhappy will sort it out next time. I for one ain't gonna get involved. I can cheerfully hold my hands up and say 'it wasn't my fault!' ;o)

Me too, never have voted labour, never will! And I hope the ones that did vote Labour are thinking; My god, what have I done!!!??? Hopefully they will get it right next time, although all hope has been lost in Hamilton where a broom could stand for election as a Labour candidate and win!

Drisgirl, on another thread you say you are moving abroad.Make your mind up.

We have a bunch of hypocrites and incompetents running this great country, they must be voted out at the first chance we have. The Tories will have to come to the rescue again. Give Dave your vote.
Before anyone can vote Labour,we need a Labour party, anyone who calls this mob a Labour party, needs to define what "Labour party"means,it certainly isn't anything like the Blair/Brown consortium that we are lumbered with now.
Question Author
Quite a few of you are saying that there is no-one you would trust at the minute, and its true! Long gone are the true statesmen and women that made this country what it was, they have been replaced by wishy-washy, limp, petty wallybrains we have now. I would wait and see what cammy and his tory party turn into though, this might be the thing we need to get us back on track, but I'm not sure, there is a certain amount of that repugnant smarminess that is TBs trade mark about him.

If Labour went back to Old Labour they would never get into power.

Certainly will not be voting New Labour again, unless the Tories' policies suddenly start championing nationalisation.
^I say again, 2010 will be the first time I get to vote^

voting for new Labour? no -- why? because they turned the 1997 election into one about standards and sleaze, and yet in 8 years that's all we have had from the majority of the cabinet. Tony Blair doesn't focus enough on UK issues, has far too many holidays (at the playgrounds of the rich and famous, many of them discounted or free), and every time he opens his mouth, smiles and starts moving those hands in his ever so sincere manner of expressing himself, I want to throw up and end up screaming at the TV set "you lying b****rd, how do I know? you've moved your lips"

Tories -- some good ideas but dont think I could trust them with outright power but more than likely wil vote for them as best out of 3 lame birds.

LibDems - too eager to get into power and will strike a coalition with anyone to get it, jettisoning any manifesto policies they need to do it (Scottish Parliament is evidence of this).

Question Author
I totally agree with you Livk, Tony Blair is such a lying sack of s*it, isn't he!!
So you want to forget about the minimum wage, working tax credits, near full employment, a rejunvinated health service, better education, better rights at work, lowest ever interest rates, longest period of sustained economic growth, etc.

Sure you will be able to find your reasons not to vote to Labour but in doing so you take the country back 20 years.

Is this what you really want?
Question Author
Can I ask, what planet do you live on? Lowest interest rates, they are kept artificially low to keep the people with mortgages happy, the people who want to save their money aren't so happy. Full employment you say, I don't think so, half the jobs that make up the adjusted statistics that make unemployment look low are non jobs, they are made up, useless jobs which you can only say they provide employment, and no more! I notice you don't mention what Labour have done to the NHS, they have done about crime, they have done about immigration, they screw every hard working person over with tax at every turn, you don't mention what a balls up Gordon Brown has made of the economy, Labour has borrowed record amounts of money to fund illegal wars, corrupt ministers, but please you go on, you vote for Labour next time, and don't you dare complain when Labour have wrecked Britain completely, they have done a mighty fine job of that so far!
Question Author
Just reading further, you must be on some kind of hallucinigenic, better education???? You are joking, right?? Half the kids that come out of your wonderful new labour schools can't read or write, and the ones that can write, can't spell. We need to go back 20 years and start again because this country is really going to the wall! By the way, the minimum wage is probably the only decent thing Labour has done along with banning fox hunting. Reality check time!!!
