Downfall as in 'Der Untergang'? I thought it was a fantastic film, one of the best war movies I've seen. I liked the end where the real 'Alexandra Maria Lara' explained how she was walking in Munich and she came across the monument to Sophie Scholl who had been executed during WW2. She realised then that age wasn't an excuse for what she had been involved in (Sophie was around the same age).

Apparently there was another follow on film show on German TV but I haven't seen it yet. Haven't a clue what it covers.

I thought it was excellent. The bloke who played hitler was particularly good.

i only caught the last 45 mins or so, but it looked very good. terrible to imagine what it must be like to have everything you believe and live for, even if it is nazism, come crumbling around you. the sense of desperation was all pervading despite their cold actions. good to see the human cost of nazism to the very people in charge, i think people all to easily forget the individual stories involved.
i thought it was fantastic, it shows hitler as a person insted of the usual monster he is often portrayed as, i would reccoment that everyone watches it!

Downfall is a truly great film, bruno ganz played the despot racist fanatic brilliantly, the film caught both the mood of the times and the claustrophobic and surreal atmosphere of the bunker better than any film i have seen of that period..

It should have stormed away with a whole bunch of oscars, but because it had no superstar american cast and wasn't directed by steven spielberg it didn't!!!!

by the way surfer mike if you are refering to the Speilberg oscar nominated movie "Munich" there were no US stars, only very good British, Irish and Aussie actors. I do agree that "Downfall" was excellent and should have been considered for best foreign movie.
Very very good and impressive.
Not referring to munich just making a point about if a film is not made by hollywood, it hardly ever gets nominated let alone wins the main oscars it just gets the patronising label best foreign language film, making a mockery of the 'best' tag...even if its outstanding like downfall.
