They werent there to disapprove of care homes

They were there to replace intrusive oppressive visiting by the Royal Colleges with light touch regulation and they did

This was all started by Alan Milburn - keepng very quietly about this indeed - when he asked Hospital CEOs what one thing could he do to improve their lives and let them get on with running hospitals

and they all changed stop hospital visiting

so he DID ! Direct legislation in the Care and Social Services Act 2003.

this is a direct effect of intended legislation in the last admininstration

I fell sorry for the CQC - they do exactly as their masters tell them
and create chaos as well - and they dont get their promised knighthoods or seats iin the Lords
They are cursed and humiliated....
and they didnt do Politics for that - I can tell you
I am certainly not sticking up for CQC but I have witnessed their visits a few times at various establishment, a couple of times after I have called them in myself. The problem is, no one is abusive in front of them, most of the staff are loyal to the home and fear for their jobs and the clients and families fear reprisal. They have an impossible job that they do poorly. I think they should spend more time interviewing staff and not just the staff on duty on the day of their visit. Also all staff should be sent a questionnaire after the visit explaining all the different types of abuse with a opportunity to respond, this way they are more like to find a member of staff that has the balls to stand up and be counted.

ratter...you have a point here. Most of the staff at these homes are paid very poorly, while the owners make millions. These staff may be too frightened of losing their jobs to be truthful with the CQC. But there has to be some way of ensuring that our vulnerable old people are not abused and tortured. We can't rely on the brave few whistleblowers to safe our futures.
The other problem Whistle Blowers have is: Ok so you whistle blow and it is treated in "strictest confidence", unfortunately the statement can be read by the accused, so they then know exactly who made the complaint! You are then branded a trouble maker by staff and if that involves the Management, try getting a reference from them when you need another job due to being forced out of your job. It isn't easy being a whistle blower I tell you.
As a whistle Blower I have had one manager sacked, another one had a final warning letter, two deputy managers sacked and countless care staff. I really know how to cause trouble in a care home I can tell you!!
