Hi there, I am just wondering whether someone could let me know who are the banks that deal with personal bankruptcy. I understand that you are not allowed a cheque book, but a visa electron? I have read somewhere there is a "secure" credit card that can be obtained in order to start credit restoration? Which bank does that? THANKS!!! any response is appreciated.

There is no secure credit card, its a myth. I made myself bankrupt over 3 years ago and was released after only a year but I cant even get an account with a Solo or Visa Electron account for another 6. Which to me is daft because if your 16 and you don't even have a credit record you can have the above still. Its meant for people who have bad credit but not insolvents. Its terrible if you ask me, treated worse by those who have major criminals offences.
sorry - treated worse by banks than those who have major criminal offences
You may be confusing this with a pre-pay credit card which looks like a credit card but isn't. You can only spend what you have loaded onto it in advance - at a fee. Don't know any details I'm afraid.
Try the Abbey Bank I believe you can get a cheque account there.

What nonsense, you can at least get a debit card. My partner was discharged from bankruptcy in April and even whilst he was bankrupt he had a debit card. Co-Op Bank do an account with a debit card and they accept almost anyone, no matter how poor their credit rating. Its their cashminder account.

Nationwide Flex Account also accept the majority of people and will give you a debit card too. You just need to shop around. If you feel happier, pop into the branch and explain your circumstances before applying and the staff should be able to point you in the right direction.

I dont think the bank account could deal with personal bankruptcy, Try to ask a lawyer of bankruptcy who are experience in that.
