Declared an accident to my insurance company...the person didnt proceed with the claim...but I lost 6 yrs no claims...can they do this??

Yes taking 6yrs off as had 9 in total...have changed insurance companies since...but got charged £88 for false information from now insurance company as said 9yrs because the claim hadnt gone through...so technically wasnt false information...then been charged £130 to rectify my no points...damn insurance companies.....thanks guys for your advice...
Thanks for the update. 9 years NCD seems high. Had you declared the accident when you submitted your application to the new company because they would have asked for details of all accidents. I must admit though I'm not sure myself what should be declared. Obviously if I bump into another car and cause damage and injury I should declare it. At the other extreme if i opened my car door in a car park and it just caught another car door leaving no visible mark I don't think I would declare it unless the other driver had taken my details. But I'm not sure where the line is drawn
