OK so I was budgeting around 1.5k but realised you cant get much for that so I have found this which seems like anamazing deal:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Certified-Diamond-Soli taire-Engagement-Platinum/dp/B001HO4BYE/ref=sr _1_11?ie=UTF8&s=watch&qid=1236093229&sr=8-11

What do you think? I mean the diamond is slightly included and near colourless. will it be ok on platinum or do you think I should go for colourless. They are s expensive though :( would this ring make you happy?

I went to Hatton Garden and there is so much choice and the prices are very competetive, being that there are jewellers everywhere.

We visited one store, which had different Diamond retail concessions, they could provide a 1 carat diamond, colour F on a white gold or Platinum band for under 2K, but being the snob I am, I felt the ring was from a supermarket, as they whip it up within an hour in their workshop down the road. We got mine from Fraser Hart in the end.

lol Velvetee :D

I remember going through steel doors to a 'back room' where the diamonds were poured out in front of us.

Just choosing was fun.

Honestly Poltergeist.... make the pilgrimage and take time for your wife to be :)

Apparently Birmingham has a Diamond quarter similar to Hatton Garden, with competetive prices.

now the question is can I trust buying it through a web site?
Quite simply, no. It's a must to actually see a selection of rings together and take the time to choose the right one. As I said, how do you know you're not spending over 1K on Cubic Zirconia.

well like the feed back amazon is 100% and they offer money back guarantee. what scams is it you saw on watchdog velvete?
I don't recall, but it may have been this episode.

Seems you are determined to buy blind. My partner spent weeks finding the ideal ring, which I appreciated.
Funny things diamonds.

They're only valuable because deBeers controls the market.

There's a classic article here
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/198202/diamond

Called "Have you ever tried to sell a diamond?"

By all means buy and enjoy, but don't let them con you into believing it's an investment

velvetee unfortunately I dont have much choice. I cant afford to go back to the uk as I need to get married and see my terminally ill mother in Sri Lanka at the same time. I would love to be able to go look around london and choose but I cant unfortunately
Is this the mother who is too ill to come and live in your house in the UK.
Question Author
she is too ill to fly. we tried to get a medical evacuation but would cost 80k and the doctor said she hasnt got long. its a really horrible situation.
To be honest with you, poltergeist, an expensive ring won't make you happy in the long term, surely it's about wanting to get married to the love of your life and all that? I have a 90 engagement ring that I never wear, and a 50 white gold band as my wedding ring. I don't like jewellery either so my wedding ring is the only thing I wear. I would find it obscene (and would be a bit fearful!) wearing something so expensive!

We also got married in Sri Lanka - it was very cheap (flew out mum, dad, mum-in-law and sis-in-law for a week, we stayed for 3 weeks) - far, far cheaper than in England and gorgeous weather. I can highly recommend it! In fact the whole holiday including wedding ceremony and family etc. cost about the same as that ring!!!
Check out this site http://www.eterniti.co.za they have a wide selection of engagement rings: http://www.eterniti.c.../engagement-rings.php to choose from.
That' a wonderful ring, I love it. Also, look more enagement rings here: http://www.pricescope.com/wiki/engagement-rings/solitaire-engagement-rings
Perhaps, you will like some.
