OK so I was budgeting around 1.5k but realised you cant get much for that so I have found this which seems like anamazing deal:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Certified-Diamond-Soli taire-Engagement-Platinum/dp/B001HO4BYE/ref=sr _1_11?ie=UTF8&s=watch&qid=1236093229&sr=8-11

What do you think? I mean the diamond is slightly included and near colourless. will it be ok on platinum or do you think I should go for colourless. They are s expensive though :( would this ring make you happy?

Usually for over 6K, you would be able to get colour D-F clarity VVS1 or VS1. The colour of that one is G, so in reality would not retail for 6K plus.

velvetee i was worried about the colour of the rind grade D on platinum. u know about that?
I have decided on reading through this thread that my idea of romance must be far removed from most others. I don't find diamond rings, big weddings, etc. romantic at all. I think Mr LL got away very lightly ;o)
LoftyLottie- I agree with you there, as I said would prefer a cheap ring and a luxury holiday to a big diamond and wedding!
me neither loftie, I wouldnt care if it were a ring out a cracker. I hate these girls that say ooh it cost so and so or ask for a certain one, they shouldnt ask and shouldnt know how much, it should be a total suprise
A girl I work with was showing of a diamond ring her boyfriend bought her (just as a present) that was 400, all I could think was, I could go somewhere nice and sunny for that much! Am very big on my holidays as you may be able to tell, all expensive things get compared to how much I've paid for holidays!
you can build your own ring on this site http://www.bluenile.co.uk/engagement-ring-styl es
Colour D is the whitest Diamond colour, the lower down the scale you go, the more yellow the Diamond becomes, which to most people isn't very pleasing.

When I got mine, the jeweller recommended colour D-F as being the best. You could possibly get away with G, but having looked at a number of different colour grades together, you can see a definite difference.

The less inclusions you have the clearer the Diamond will look. F is obviously Flawless, so there will be no marks within it. VVSI (very very slight inclusions) would be the next best after that.

But if you are looking at the best colour in 1 Carat with the fewest inclusions, then expect to pay over 6 or 7K.

I think it's probably best to get the best Diamond you can afford, not necessarily be too concerned about the Diamond size. In this case, quality is preferable to size.
Hi Poltergeist,

That ring looks lovely, but in all honesty???? go to a decent independant jeweller and see it 'in the flesh'.

I managed to barter for an aquamarine and diamond ring at a pawn brokers and got him down from 4200 to 3100 so you should be able to get a 2200 down to 1500 quite easily.

Have a beautiful wedding :D
If I had a big diamond ring, knowing me I wouldn't dare wear it anyway! I don't wear any rings, they get in the way!!
I agree, it is a lovely ring and I would love to have had one like it. I didn't have an engagement ring :-(
I would agree with Luxury, when it comes to Diamons, always go to an experienced Jeweller and look at a number of rings. Buying online, you don't really know what you're getting, could be Cubic Zirconia on a silver band.

velvetee i meant g sorry :)

I went to look at rings out here but they are like 12k usd for a 1 carat which is far too much so its online for me!
Poltergeist, where are you shopping where rings are only 12k???

Buying online could be risky.....

Since you are going to Thailand btw, why don't you wait till you're out there and buy?
You can get a reasonable one from a jewellers here, they have all kinds to suit all kinds of budgets. How do you know you will be getting a genuine Diamond from an online site?

I would buy in Sri lanka but the exchange rate cripples any purchase. When I first got here I bought a laptop for 1k but now with all the currency stuff the same lap top now would cost me 1.5k!!!!

thats why I have to buy from UK
Question Author
but Velvetee its through www.amazon .com
you cant get any more safe (i hope)
Just so you know. I was watching Watchdog some weeks ago and a number of people have been scammed on Amazon. The sellers usually have no association with the company.
Apologies Poltergeist... Sri Lanka :)

Since an engagement ring is quite an important piece of bling... either get down to London (Hatton Garden) where you can barter or find a jeweller where you are that doesn't command 12k for 1carat.
