this is an excellent gif http://is.gd/gKEGbw
Yes, I wish some people would get it right.
She also won the US and Australian open titles.
Are you referring to SIR Andy Murray, sports personality of the year?
He ain't knighted yet and shouldn't be until the end of his career. On that basis, arise Dame Wade, Dame Jones and Dame Barrett.
Shouldn't that be Dame Mortimer? She was still Mortimer when she won in '61

I've always wondered when I man get's a Knighthood his wife becomes Lady Whoever, but when a woman is awarded a Damehood, how come her husband or significant other doesn't gain a sort of title too? It's one of life's little mysteries I suppose ....
I guess so, nungate. How many still remember that little fact of tennis history to begin with?

Arise Sir Andy, you'll be forgotten in 50 years, especially by the Daily Wail.
In an independent Scotland all he would have been awarded is a new set of baws :-)
or have a few SNPs fawning under his sporran.
While I don't exactly remember the matches (too young ... choke ) I do know my tennis history I suppose.

While it's very nice for people to say Andy should be knighted and all that, I think that's something that should be awarded at the end of his tennis career and after he's got a few more slams under his belt. I feel the same about some others who have been awarded knighthoods over the past few years - seems like they are being handed out like sweeties these days
I agree with you, nungate and it started with the last govt and Blair re the Olympics....on retirement is apropos for services to the sport at a minimum.
