New Job Dilemma

So I started my new job 3 weeks ago and after a couple of days noticed that there were lots of meetings and private conversations between management that just didnt seem ordinary. It was obvious something was going on.

Then at the end of last week week one of the lads in my dept told me how he'd been told that if we received more than £x.xx value of purchase invoices (which I know is quite possible) then the financiers would pull the plug.

The department I work in is the only profitable dept in the company so he said if that happened we'd split out on our own tomorrow and keep working (the way we were before we got bought out a few years ago).

He brought it up again today after a couple of dept managers went off to have another meeting. He said one was trying to convince the other to clear the place of anything valuable before the receivers come in so we can't start up straight away again.

So, I have no idea what to do. I can't really go and asking my managers if the company is about to fold, although its so obvious to everyone something is going on but I feel like I've been duped. I can't decide whether I should just cut my losses and very quickly start searching elsewhere or sit it out and see hat happens. Any advice?

I would most definitely ask them if they were about to fold, you need to look out for yourself Evi.
I agree, although they may not tell you truthfully. There's no harm in having a look around anyway and updating your CV etc to prepare yourself.

How would you go about asking that? If the guy that told me has his info wrong then I'm going to look like an idiot who should mind her own business with the bosses.
I would still go in and have a quiet word with the boss. You don't have to name names, but can say rumours are going around . There may well be other staff that need reassuring or explaining to. Once your boss knows the situation, he/she should really deal with your concerns.

Yeah you're right, I'm sure I could be diplomatic about it. These sort of things don't happen out of the blue so it seems odd they'd recruit me if they knew they were in trouble but there's certainly something not right. I know my main boss is out tomorrow so ill see if I hear anything else and pluck the courage up to speak to him Wednesday.
Good luck. I know it's not easy, but if i was a boss, i would rather know. If you're wrong, they'll reassure you and maybe think twice about what messages they're giving out. If you're right...well they should be impressed!

Thanks for the advice Pixie, you make it sound win win :)
Hopefully it is. You should get an idea from their reaction. If they are the sort of people who will lie to your face, you're better off somewhere else.
best of luck x
