I work in catering and we all have to fill in forms regarding temperatures of food and fridges, the form sheets are in a book and are replaced weekly by the clerical staff. this week the forms weren't replaced because the person who normally puts them in was off work that day, so the forms weren't replaced. My employer had a chat whit us about the forms not being filled in.I asked my employer "why can you not do it?" regarding sorting out forms........It's not my job she says and gave me daggers..........but I feel it is her job.
Others said I was out of line saying that, Now thinking about it I may have been, because the next day she had it in for me.

But should I apologies?
There should be some sort of contingency process in place to cover missing staff - and putting that in place is surely a managerial responsibility. Has this issue been addressed by your employer ?

So basically I think you're right. Having said that, reminding management of their shortcomings in front of other staff is not recommended, they can be very sensitive if they're not up to the job. Without closer familiarity with the personalities and relationships involved it is impossible to say about the wisdom (or otherwise) of an apology - you need to weigh up the possibility of it aggravating a wound which may be healing, or being accepted at face value and sweetening her up again.
Good answer by Canary.
It was a failure by management (your employer) but pointing out to one's supervisor that they are a complete cretin has to done tactfully.
if it's her job, it's also your job
You should have avoided the situation in the first place by either requesting the required form or making a separate record to be transferred to the appropriate form when it became available, it isnt rocket science, you were at fault and you should have dealt with it and yes you should have apologised.
Sweeten dagger eyes with a blossom sprig ie lilac stem (smell lovely & in bloom now). Just one bloom, dont overkill……good luck
"This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that .
Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. "

Excellent T T T. There is nothing to add.
