I have a dell inspiron 1545 and Toshiba satellite pro A100 both have cracked screens, I want to sell them. If I remove the hard drives, will all my information come off the laptop even if the new owner gets a new hard drive. I have photos etc on there, which I don't want in the wrong hands. So I want everything off the laptops before I sell them. Also what will I get for them in terms of money? thanks x

I don't think you'd get much for a laptop with a cracked screen and no hard drive.

so how can I clear the hard drive? I have no software for either laptop anymore.
If you type 'format hard drive into the search box on this wunnerful website, there will appear much information of good use.
Remove the hard drives and vigorously attack them with a hammer before disposing of the laptops in the correct section of your local rubbish tip.

There is no need to destroy the hard drives. Just buy a caddy for them and you'll have lots of external storage, and you still have your files if you wanted to keep them.
>you'll have lots of external storage

Depends how old the laptops are.

If they are a few years old the hard drives may be very small by todays standards, maybe only 80Gb or 100Gb or whatever.
^^ Dell Inspiron 1545 has a 250gb hdd. Considerably bigger than most usb flash pens. Being 2.5 hard drives they take up very little room.
