Hi Ethel, and anyone else who answers my question.

I keep getting fake Ebay emails asking about laptop computers.I have never bought or sold a laptop on Ebay,in fact i've never owned a laptop. I know it is some sort of scam but i'm confused as to what they are trying to gain by asking me to confirm when my supposed purchase has arrived. I have never replied to any of these emails btw. I could understand if they were asking me to log in to Ebay so they could get my details but nowhere within the email is there a link to click.
As you are the most knowledgeable Ebayer I could think of Ethel could you enlighten me as to what this scam is about please?

if you are getting an ebay question has it got a tranaction id number for the item you have supposed to have bought.
if it has a number go direct to your ebay homepage to check to see if someone has hijacked your account.if your account has been hijacked contact ebay ASAP
This happened to me a lot when I first joined although I have never bought anything. I reported it to ebay and they confirmed all the emails saying that I owed for American Baseball tickets (ME!!) was spam and to report any others, they stopped after about a week. Good luck.
As these are definitely fake emails I can't imagine what they are trying to achieve.

Have you got a lot of good feedback on your account? If so, and you haven't bought or sold anything for a while, it could be an attempt to hijack your account - then goods will be listed for sale under your username and funds diverted to the scammer. Of course they will change the email address so you aren't alerted until it is much too late.

Or they could simply be email harvesting - you reply saying you haven't bought anything and they have your email address.
