Bin men just emptied my wheelie-bin and I went to bring it back to the house. As I walked back down the drive the Postman followed me and I said "good morning" and held out my hand for the letters. He said "I don't know you so I've got to put them in the letter box".

I wouldn't have thought it was worth the possible risk to them and, worst case scenario, their job not to follow the rules so I'm glad they do.

Apparently some time back our postman kept dropping items of mail up the top of the street near an overgrown cut through. Thankfully the guy from the end house spotted it and delivered some of my that had been dropped, thank goodness as it was a new chequebook!

Not barmy and possibly facilitating an offence under the Post Office Act if he does not put the mail in the box. He's certain to be breaking some rule of his employment. Our postie, who must know everyone in the village by now, hands me my letters but they are addressed to me or my daughter. She goes further. She signs for me as well, in my absence, and also is given to leaving letters , in a bag, in the shelter of a tree by the box rather than attempting to stuff them into it. Sure at least one of those breaks some rule!
