Could anyone please let me know the titles of books they have found to be interesting, cheerful and real page turners. This is for my wife, who is a retired schoolteacher. She is unable to visit a library herself as she is disabled, but friends would collect books for her. She has a Kindle e-reader.
Thank you.

Anything by Anita Shreve. They are well written . I like her work. I've just started Justin Cartwright's " To Heaven by Water". Looks promising. Ian McEwan very good too - Helen Dunmore, Shirley Hazzard or John McGahern. My OH likes the Scarpetta stories but don't know who the author is. Good luck.

anything by Tom Sharpe is a real page turner. I've rarely read a book without laughing my head off!

Thank you Always Confused, slinky kate and Rosie 29 for your helpful answers.
I was going to reccomend that bednobs; just finished it yesterday and it was fantastic! The Man Who Forgot His Wife by John O'Farrell was also good and Eleven by Mark Watson. There was another one I read over Christmas which was good but can't remember what it was now!
Just remembered; it was The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom
Anything by Kate Morton... The Forgotten Garden is a wonderful book.
Love the Anne McCaffrey books now written by her son Todd. The Dragon series. Fantasy but somehow real. Interesting characters, tight plots. I always want to know at the end of each book, what happens next? Not always the same characters, different takes on the same world. For someone with a lively and enquiring mind these are different and thought provoking as well as being a good read.
I was just going to recommend The Hundred Year Old Man who Climbed out of the Window and Disappeared, but I see you have already done so bednobs so I am too late. I think it is very good and a new theme. Translated from the Swedish original by Ray Bradbury.
Couldn't resist it JJ, went straight to Amazon and bought a copy of Dead Simple. If I like it I shall buy more of his books.
