Could anyone please let me know the titles of books they have found to be interesting, cheerful and real page turners. This is for my wife, who is a retired schoolteacher. She is unable to visit a library herself as she is disabled, but friends would collect books for her. She has a Kindle e-reader.
Thank you.

If she likes crime novels, Peter James has written a great series of books featuring a detective called Roy Grace. There are eight so far. The first was called DEAD SIMPLE.

They are all set in Brighton. If you've ever been here, you'll keep thinking Hey, I've been there!
A good introduction to fantasy is a trilogy by a new author - Elspeth Cooper. The first two books are out now with a third due in the summer. The first two are 'Songs of the Earth' and 'Trinity Rising'. I was new to fantasy and loved these books. They are beautifiully written. Give them a try. Happy reading!
I like Victoria Hislop's books "The Island", "The Return" and "The Thread". They aren't necessarily cheerful but are certainly interesting. Pat Barker's "Regeneration Trilogy" is also a great read. I've been reading Patrick Gale's books lately too and Sarah Waters is another good author.

Oh, we'll there you go, robert.

Your wife will probably be able to visualise the whole story. In the first novel, four guys bury their friend in a coffin in the woods as a stag night prank. Before they can go and let him out, they all die in a road accident. But THEN ...

I am just finishing "Room",by Emma Donoghue...somewhat disturbing-but ultimately totally uplifting. Life through the eyes of a five year old.

Lee Child writes great page turners. The Stieg Larsson trilogy is excellent but do read it in order. Robert, does your local library loan ebooks, I know mine in Staffordshire does. It might be worth checking your local council's web page.

The accolades and awards it received in the first paragraph in the Wiki link speak for themselves. You won't be able to put it down.
