Looking for an alternative to chips, any suggestions would be most appreciated, (except any other potato incarnation!)

fingers of sweet potato and parsnips, drizzled with honey and olive oil and oven roasted

How about cous cous?

Loads of different flavour types on the market nowadays and it has almost no fat in it!

Some quite tasty such as tomato or mushroom or even Morrocan spice.

Butternut squash and sweet potato (not potato incarnations) can be cut into chips, spray with cooking oil spray and sprinkle with a little sea salt and roast for 35-40 minutes.
farmfoods make a variety of chips that are actually made from mashed carrot, or peas, with potato etc etc and they are green, orange and yellow - kids love them and don't realise they are not ordinary chips

Depends on the main course, init...........

Nice fresh warm bread, with a seasonal salad and tasty dressing; Pasta; Cous cous as above; Roasted veg as above; Suet dumplings.

What about Jerusalem artichoke? - scrub, par boil and saute til crisped, or peel, boil and mash and make a nice 'tower' using a ring with crushed peas, j/artchokes and broad beans on top of each other. Looks posh and dead easy to do.

Portobello mushrooms? - grilled with garlic & herb butter.

Chick peas, or almost any of the pulses. May need a sauce though.
