Car Refused To Move

Got into my car this morning - engine started on first turn over - great .

Chucked a bowl of water over the windscreen and the back window , to remove ice - no problem

Released handbrake and went to pull away and the car would not move - it felt as if something was holding the car back as if the handbrake was not disengaged - but it was cos the handbrake light on dashboard went out when i realeased the handbrake lever .

The resistance seemed to be coming from the back wheels

After quite a long while , and with me gently putting my foot on the gas on quite a number of ocassions , the resistance gradually dissapeared .

What do you think was the problem ?
Could it have been the brakes shoes that had frozen against the discs ?
Was it that cold last night ?

Has anyone experienced this issue before ?

Would it be sensible to take it to a Pegeout dealer for them to plug it into thier Peugeot planet diagnostic tool - ( which i have read about ) to see what it says about the ECU ?.
Get rid of it Bazile, it will end up costing you a mint.
Hi, you have no need to take it to an EXPENSIVE Pug garage Bazile, if you have a local VAT Reg garage nearby, call into them & ask the could the check the ECU, it will be a quarter of the cost for them to plug in & test, but be don't be shocked but be prepaired for the dio, if they tell you that there is a problem, get that in writting then return to the garage that so-called checked it previously, with respect to Tony, it can be sorted also your Clutch if & when, thats not a big job as such, but again do not go to the dealer unless you have avery BIG PURSE.

Sorry if this is turning into war and peace .

- Why does it need to be a vat regd garage ?

- What do you mean by - ' be prepared for the ' dio' ?

- You say return to the garage that so called checked it recently -
do you mean the garage that serviced the car ?
High cost of repair.
Yes, the garage that serviced the car Bazile.

If found that the car was not serviced right, you may be asked who Diagnosed the car! In other words, Not done by Mr Someone next door.
Should have added, we are all here to help if we can.
Yes as mentioned above, handbrake stuck on rear wheels. My car is suseptable to this. So in cold or wet weather I drive forward one revolution before reversing. It has been so bad on odd occasions I take the hammer and give the rear brake drums a couple of sharp blows to release the pads.
If you intend to Belt the rear Drum / wheel centers, do it with a Rubber hammer, Meal to Metal Can cause an Alloy wheel ( If you have them) to crack.
is the op real?never ecer ever chuck water cold warm or hot onto screens.
you could shatter them when the temps react.
thaw them slowly by using heaters in car and de icer
god must be thick chucking water on screens then saying why has my screen broke
I had a Capri years ago that selected forward and reverse gears at the same time, that was a nightmare but I dont think that can happen on modern cars.
That's strange, I have been doing what Bazile does for 30 years + I never had a cracked screen! Did she state hot / cold? I think not. it's now 2012, screens don't shatter anymore they crack.
Baldrick. Lots of modern cars have drums for the handbrake, they are built into the back of the rear discs.
