Anaemia and Iron Tablets

My doctor advises me that I am anaemic and has given me iron tablets. I believe that my 'ferretin level was 9ish'.

The result popped up in a regular blood test (Lithium and Diabetes bloods) but I have been feeling really tired/lethargic lately - I had just put this down to my general fitness and health being poor.

How long do these tablets take to kick in and make up the iron deficit? Any other help or information would be appreciated.

Iron replacement by tablets is a slow process and the time it takes to "Kick in" or bring the haemoglobin back to normal, depends upon the depth of the starting point.

I assume that your Hb level was not that bad, then they should "kick in" after about one month.

sqad - ta. I didn't realise that you consulted at the weekend. The only reading that he gave was the 9.? one. He told me the figure but I have forgotten it as he was giving me the results of all the other tests too.

I am trying to type this with my avatar's sister lying on my arms - not an easy task. :-)
LOL....I charge double at weekends. NHS doctors refuse weekend work ;-)

I had to pay £100 weekend call out charge to the vet when Frankie was ill. By the time I got to the surgery he was looking the picture of innocent health. Typical!!
