ok that is legit - my point was that it was a newbie and someone who hadn't subsequently contributed to the thread, the doubt being validity.......there's no linkage to here, by the way....

as to goodlife, he just spouts from his JW sources and it's the lack of originality, finding perhaps an angle or a variation to comment constructively or creatively on.

modeller, apology for the diversion here. As to the female bishops, I subscribe to the camp that finds it unbelievable that a national institution can be so myopic - and in contravention to UK and EU Human Rights and Work Equality legislation.....

I have to agree with chakka & Fred if you accept woman as priests how can you exclude them as Bishops?

I wonder what the gender of the laity is ? It would be interesting to know how the women members voted.
The laity. Taught that it was anyone not part of the church.

They are but the laity synod which have just scuppered the women bishops are elected/selected to represent them .
And who purported to be the electorate?

#Boxy, Lay representatives are ‘invited’. They are nominated by their local clergy (bit like the Old Boy’s club really). They are then called to commit themselves and commissioned by the Bishop – for which they receive a certificate.#

To reply to woofgang's note of ages ago, women don't have Y chromosomes.
But other exceptions to the equality legislation have to be supported by reason and logic.
Not founded on prejudice and ancient superstition and doubtful "scripture", which doesn't forbid women to be priests anyway. And traditionalists should stop quoting St Paul who was a misogynist anyway. If they do stop quoting him, they'll find there's no other authority whatsoever for treating religious women worse than men.
