Well danny- Pentire and Penelope both seem insistent that the paper has made a mistake. I just don't understand what they're saying though

Thanks Penelope2, that's resolved it. Now I can get some work done!!
I have the DT in front of me, so to clear up any misunderstandings:-
5d. Blended rye a tramp slyly kept in rug. (6&3) = Prayer Mat (anagram)
5a Collect dull rug (7) P-O-E-R. (obviously a misprint)
Well I don't understand what you mean now, Pentire.
For those of us who tried to help please can you tell us the clue for 5a and the clue to 5d.
Thanks penelope2. Our posts crossed
Factor.I am not saying that the paper made a mistake I am saying that The given clue refers to 5.down and the letters given refer to 5 across.
Thanks dannyk. I knew what you were saying- it's Pentire and Penelope who have said there was a mistake in their paper. Penelope has now told us what her paper says
the web site clues are different 5a Colonist, one taking part in landing (7) and 5d is Clect a dull rug (6,3)
I have what Penelope has, 5d is correct re the prayer mat, 5a isn't!Pioneer being the only fit for P-o-e-r (all the otherr clues work, 6,7,8d).

Dannyk must have the correct version then either on paper or online
On line
Yep, mine is the paper version, still it made for an interesting discussion didn't it.
Don't know about that, Penelope. My head is spinning here.
it's really very simple. The clues in the online version are correct. The editor had a revised clue for 5 down but he put it into 5 across by mistake in the newspaper version. The net result was that there were two clues for 5 down and none for 5 across.
