Nobody believes me!! Way way back in 1964 on my way back from a late night party of which I never drank alcohol I hasten to add, I saw such a massive moon that I thought it was crashing to earth! It was SOO close! Any sensible explanations?!

A full moon low, near the horizon, seems very big.

Thx for your replies tho' I'm not easily convinced that it was an illusion as the picture on the wikipedia site is relatively small compared to the size I witnessed and as regards the science site, I'm blowed if I'm going to bend from the waist & look at the moon upside down between my legs! An optical illusion? On reflection (HA HA!) maybe it was, as there's no way it could possibly be THAT big! (Is there!?)I so wish I could see it again. It was April or May time in 1964. I wonder if it will occur again - optical illusion or otherwise!?!
These were the full moon dates for the year.

The spring and Autumn full moons are dramatic - have a look out at our Harvest Moon this evening, its fantastic here as its such a clear sky.

Fabulous moon last night. So bright and clear.
HARVEST MOON: This weekend's full Moon is the Harvest Moon, the full Moon closest to the autumnal equinox. Before electric lights, farmers working after sunset relied on the light of the Harvest Moon to help them gather ripening autumn crops. Now it's just a pretty sight. Look east for the Harvest moonrise on Saturday night
