My three year old grandson was on holiday at Butlins last weekend. We live in a rural part of the country so it was new to hime when a woman in a black burkah walked past, he cried "Batman"!!

Years ago when my eldest son was three and we stood on Barking Essex station he shouted out with glee in his loudest voice "its the Fat Controller"

My godson's sis, age 3 stood in the entrance hall of a 12thC Oxfordshire house when an old friend from school of her father turned up. He was Nigerian, 6ft 3 and quite portly, therefore filling the entrance of the old house. She looked him up and down and issued the immortal words, "Why are you covered in chocolate?"

To counter this, I was with a limo driver in Washington D.C. and he said that they often had similar reactions from their toddlers - "why is he/she covered in talcum powder?" or "Is he/she a ghost?"

When I was small my Aunt (who looked after me) took me to the local Park, which was surrounded by the Jewish community. One man terrified me he always stopped and smiled. I asked my aunt why the man with no arms stop to smile at me? He was tall all in black, black curly hair and beard. He wore a black fedora hat and later I realised that it was a black cape so I never saw his arms or hands.
