Since i've been out of work, i put in a claim for council tax reduction. I supplied them with info re savings accounts etc, about a week later i got a letter asking for evidence. Before i start rounding up statments etc, is their a limit, say if i have over a certain figure, they would not give a reduction or benifit ?

Normally you would need to be on income support or non-contribution based job seekers' allowance before you would get council tax benefit.

any savings over 16,000 is a straight no no, anything between 3000 and 16000 can affect how much you can get as they take some income into account from the (supposed!) interest.

have a look at http://www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefits/council_tax_benefit.asp for some general info and http://www.entitledto.co.uk/under60.asp to see if you might be entitled.

Nothing would tell you for sure apart from actually claiming though.
