I don't know the purpose of a dovecote, can you explain (in simple terms obviously!)

Here we are: Single and double boxes - the reasons that feral pigeons were popular was for (i) food - a bird can go to conception to 1.5 pounds in 6 weeks so were a major source of fresh meat in winter (ii) the guano for fertiliser being nitrate rich and (iii) associated with that, potential gunpowder.

Alba I got the dvd set off e bay. Every one is good . Did you know that they are nearly all one family in real life,

Many were under the control of the Church.....down here the biggest are 200 or so boxes, around the UK (and Jersey) there are examples of ones with 400.

Oh now I get it. What a lovely building. I once read about some very common bird (pigeon of some sort) in the USA that was hunted to extinction (for food).
