Just watched Countryfile prior to watching the match, and it has struck me as odd that the aircraft used in the programme has the pilot in the back seat and the passenger in the front.
I have noticed this before in other small aircraft also. Is there any particular for this?

Would a gunner have a better view from the back seat, looking through the pilot's head?
Hang on Judge, the gunner might shoot the pilot.

Maybe that's it. The gunner in the front would be able to shoot straight ahead.
In the first world war when they had gunners standing up swinging a machine gun around, I believe several of them shot up the tail of their own aircraft.
