He was just a man, but happened to be magnificently gifted at football, there are few things sadder than wasted talent.

One of the last men to lay his life on the line form WW1 died at the age of 108 this week.

A man who kicked a football about dies of a self inflicted problem after being given the chance to make amends having been given a liver takes no notice and kills himself.

What a sorry state when this drunk gets treated like a god and a man who really did something for his country gets virtually ignored.

why is it so wrong to pay tribute to george best, when elvis presley died the issue of him being a drug addict didn't stop millions of people from paying him tributes, and likewise other famous figures like marilyn monroe, richard burton and many others who abused their bodies, and quite right as well, these people give entertainment and pleasure to millions, and are accorded the tributes they merited, regardless of the way they choose to live their life's, which was their choice...to read some comments of him you'd swear the man was a mass murderer or a paedophile.

i have no time for george best, as others have said, he was given a second chance and blew it, if someone tells you your going to die if you carry on drinking then 9 out of 10 would stop immediatly. i'm sick with seeing it on the news and reading about it how great this guy was. i'm 25 years old and all ive ever see him do was down drinks. what a complete waste. next you'l all be saying how great garry glitter was when he dies. gimmee a break. i'm more concerned about my great grandad, he died the same morning as best, he was 93, and 10 times the man best ever was

I think alot of the answers given here are so disrespectful. What does it matter if alcoholism is a disease of not? George Best had a problem with drink and could stop - and it killed him. I think that is very sad. He knew that he was ruining his life. If a memebr of your family died an alcoholic would you be so quick to call him pathetic and not care? I would find it starnge if you did.

I think we should appreciate him as a fantastic footballer, and remember the pleasure he gave to other people, and the fact he was a 'working class hero' who lived other people dreams for them.

He also broke boundries between football fans not only of teams in this country, but fans of football teams around the world. Everybody knew George Best was one of the best players ever to play the game.

I have read many items in the papers about George Best over the last few days, and all of them, wether it be a person who met him and asked for an autograph, or a person that knew him all his life said was a pleasure it was to have known him and what a nice man he was. He just had a problem with drinking - that's all.

RIP George Best.
