Just seen on Twitter that Casey Stoner has announced he will retire from MotoGP at the end of this season, aged 27.

Well, that sucks.

Don't know how I feel about that really, can't say I'm a huge fan to be honest!

I've never been a huge fan of him (although have warmed to him slightly over the past 2 years) but he's quite a big asset to the sport and I think it will be detremental to it for him to not to be there any more.
True!

I'm actually a little bit sad about it oddly.

With the tragic loss of Marco last year who was so promising and now the top riders retiring, it's all going the wrong way for MotoGP.
It does seem a bit flat this year so far doesn't it, and like you say with the top riders leaving it can only get worse.
Until Bradley Smith steps up and takes it by storm!
Well I can hope, can't I? :-)

I can't wait til we see Bradders in the top class. I just hope he can live up to the expectations. Cal hasn't been doing too badly this year. He needs to get some podiums under his belt though.

Press release here if you're interested.

Thanks Evian.
Casey has been lucky to win what he has, on different bikes he was ordinary only the Honda brought out some of the talent mind you put Vale back on the honda and watch him disappear. Good ride for Cal Crutchlow there....
As you can tell from my avatar I am a fan of a certain Mr Rossi and also Moto GP....or at least I was.
Moto GP has basically changed roles with F1 from a few years back i.e. no excitement and the same old people winning the races. Every race this season apart from falls and suchlike will be fought between just 3 riders - Stoner, Lorenzo and Pedrosa and the latter can't lead races.
I am not a fan of Stoner at all and refer to him as Casey Moaner as even when he wins that's all he does but I guess now we know why.
No doubting his ability but Rossi ground him down and if no one takes the fight to him he goes unchallenged. Moto GP without Rossi fighting at the front will die.
Lorenzo is out of contract after 2012 so I seriously hope that Rossi returns to either Honda or Yamaha to end his career on a high and reignite the Moto GP flame.
He is in the twilight of his career and the worry for Dorna is that apart from Lorenzo there is nobody remotely like him left to keep it going.
Simoncelli was an amazing prospect and a new Rossi in the making who knew just how to get under riders skin.
RIP Marco and good luck for the future Casey (Moaner!).
